Cornell Cooperative offers classes for parents

Cornell Cooperative Extension in Riverhead is offering workshops aimed at helping parents better understand their children and enhance the family experience:

“Kids as Consumers,” on Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will focus on how materialism, marketing and media affect families and introduce simple approaches to counteract their impact. This workshop is free.

On Jan. 26, also 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., “Why Young Children Behave the Way They Do” will outline developmental stages, explore temperament and its effect on behavior and help parents develop realistic expectations for their children. There is a $25 fee for this workshop.

Preregistration is required. Call 727-7850, ext. 340, or visit ccesuffolk.org.
